Spring Break in Chicago

Spring Break in Chicago: Day 1

OUR SHE-CAGO TRIP: SPRING BREAK. A BREAK AWAY FROM THE CLICHE BEACH TRIP. 6 GIRLS. 2 CARS. 1 BIG CITY.

St.Patrick’s Day

Follow our Journey through the windy city!

Keep an eye out for posts of the rest of the days.

As we go to all the tourist traps and eat the best food, we make our way through Chicago dreaming of the days to come when we’re living in the city.

Today we Hit:

- Irish Chicago

- The green river

- Chicago’s train system

- Rosebud Steakhouse

To start off our time in the windy city, we arrived just in time for St. Patrick’s day… except not quite in time. Little did we know, everyone celebrated on Saturday. However, we did not let that determine our St. Patty’s day. We all bought train cards and made our way to understand the CTA system. Being a bunch of southern gals, this was not our strong suit. We found our way to Irish Chicago and sat down on the rooftop of a local pub.

We may have missed the parade and the dying of the river but we still got to experience the Chicago celebration but in our own more chill way.

On our way back from the pub, we made our way to the river just so we could at least see it green.

To complete our acclamation day, we went to Rosebud to celebrate Allison’s birthday. The Italian restaurant with a play on Citizen Kane was much more than we were expecting. While we most definitely were out of place, we embraced it. We were living our best life. That night we ate the best we would the entire trip. Next time I make it to Chicago, Rosebud will be back on my list.

Spring Break in Chicago: Day 2

The Cliche Tourist Day

The Bean, Navy Pier, Cultural Center, Second City, Jeni’s ice cream, Stan’s Donuts

Day 2 in Chicago was our cliche tourist day. We started off by going to the bean (cloud gate for you art scholars) and made our way around Millennial Park.

Next stop was Stan’s donuts. Not the best donut I’ve ever had but was pretty dang good.

The next place, I think is very underrated. I had never heard of it (forgive me if it’s popular), but the Chicago Cultural Center. It was full of beautiful architecture and great art pieces. The building itself is a piece of art. It was perfect for a photo shoot with every room being entirely different.

We then made our way to Navy Pier, where we wandered around, did a bit of shopping, and grabbed some lunch. By the time we got to the outside portion, it was a wonderful sunny day so we lied down and enjoyed the rays.

Now the best part of the day was the best of the second city show. Our seats were right in the front and the interactive experience was so much fun. At one point they took Kellan’s phone and read her text messages as a part of an improv section.

To complete the day, we stopped at Jeni’s ice cream on our way back home.

Spring Break in Chicago: Day 3

Taco Tuesday:

- Fieldhouse Jones

- Lincoln Park Zoo

-Lincoln Park Conservatory

- Portillos

A good breakfast always leads to a good day.

We found a sweet little spot right down the street from our Airbnb called Fieldhouse Jones. It was a coffee shop/ breakfast joint/ hotel. I got an iced latte and smoked salmon bagel while everyone else had the avocado toast.

We then made our way to the Lincoln park zoo. Since it was still kind of cold out, the animals took a while to come out. Next to the zoo is the Conservatory. It is basically a large green house with an abundance of blooming flowers and tropical plants. If I could, i would go here everyday. It was a great place to take pictures and was so relaxing and serene.

For lunch, we went to Portillos, which we were told is a Chicago must. After stuffing ourselves with burger, hot dogs, and fries, we made our way home for a mid-afternoon nap.

We finished our night we a Taco Tuesday.

Spring Break in Chicago: Day 4

Our fourth day in Chicago was not the prettiest. It rained for most the day. Lucky for us, it was our most relaxed day and what we had planned to do would be inside.

While everyone was getting ready, I made my way back to Fieldhouse Jones to get another coffee and enjoy some reading. We then all met up and went to the Alder Planetarium. This is a great place to look back and see the Chicago skyline.

Afterwards we went to shake shack for burgers and made our way to the Magnificent Mile to go shopping.

For dinner, I met up with my cousin as El Medici near the university of Chicago.

To finish the night, we all had milkshakes at a diner down the street from our Airbnb. It wasn’t the best service but we had a good time.

Spring Break in Chicago: Day 5

Our last day in Chicago was wrapped up by some of my favorites parts of the trip. First off, the WNDR museum…. wow. incredible. I don’t have the words to explain how much I loved this.

The WNDR museum consists of interactive, experiential art. You start off by picking a color string that speaks to you. They then let you into the entrance room. In there, you can take pics with some signs and play around. On one side there is an author at a typewriter. You give them your name and a topic and they write you a story. You then make your way through the maze-like museum, going room to room, being blown away by obstructions and allusions. Each section is so unique and picturesque. Instead of staring at a piece of art you are invited to take part in it. Towards the end, you pick up a notecard that matches your string. It has a description of your emotions and its crazy accurate. The museum finishes with a kusama infinity room.

It is an overall incredible experience and I recommend it to anyone with the time. You have to book ahead of time though, so keep that in mind.

We then made our way to get some traditional deep dish pizza. We decided on giordanos and we were not disappointed.

To finish the day, we went to a blackhawks game. For someone who grew up in Mississippi, hockey is not something i have ever experienced but I absolutely loved it!

10/10 day
