Cyanotype

Cyanotype is a photographic process which produces a cyan-blue print. It can be tea toned but i prefer the stark blue. It is where blue-prints got there name and are traditionally seen with botanicals.

The process works as a photogram or with a negative as a contact process. It takes a long exposure time, mine was around ten minutes.

My project was based off of the blue hue. I wanted my content to be reflective of the color. To me, the medium and content needed to coincide. To do that, i emphasized the blue of water. I used an underwater housing and a model in a lap pool. After taking the photos, I made them black and white then inverted them. I then printed them on transparency to make a digital negative.

I also printed on fabric to allude to the movement of water. The large sheet was meant to illustrate the water without using an image.
